Diverse Dialogues - Communicators: Helping Americans Vote in 2020
Description
On October 6, the PRSA National Diversity and Inclusion Committee will hold its next Diverse Dialogues conversation; the session is entitled Communicators: Helping Americans Vote in 2020. Today, more than ever due to the coronavirus pandemic, voter education is vitally important. Communicators are leading the charge in helping Americans understand important issues around where, when, and how to vote. Additionally, communicators from myriad organizations are taking bold steps to ensure that voting rights are understood. They are taking a lead role in helping Americans understand important issues as they relate to voting this election cycle.

• Kelly Mason, Director, Corporate Communications at Levi Strauss & Co. & Representative of Time to Vote
• Zara Haq, Voting Rights Advocate, ACLU
• Sarah Courtney, Communications and Digital Strategy Senior Director, League of Women Voters of Orange County
• Dan Lewerenz, Staff Attorney, Native American Rights Fund – Voter Action
• Angela Sailor, Vice President of The Feulner Institute at The Heritage Foundation
Moderating this important discussion is Felicia Blow, APR, Co-Chair, of the National Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Felicia also has been nominated as PRSA 2021 Chair-elect. Felicia is very active in her diversity/inclusion leadership also serving as Chair of the D&I Strategic Planning Committee, playing a lead role in the development of the 2020-2022 plan.

She oversees communications, media relations, brand marketing, and online activity for the organization. With more than a decade of experience covering government and elections as a political journalist, Sarah enjoys working with the press to elevate the League’s work and highlight voting-rights victories in the media and to the public. Sarah brings experience in strategic communication, having previously consulted for a number of businesses and nonprofit organizations. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Fairfield University and lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and daughter. Kelly Mason (Director, Corporate Communications @Levi Strauss & Co. & Representative of Time to Vote) Kelly is the director of corporate communications at Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&Co.), a founding member of Time to Vote, a business-led movement to ensure employees have the time and resources they need to vote. Prior to joining LS&Co., Kelly led communications for several initiatives at Alphabet and Google, including Google Fiber and Google.org. Kelly previously worked in communications for Omidyar Network, a philanthropic investment firm. Her 15 years of experience in communications has focused on the intersection of business and social impact. Kelly serves on the board of Youth Outside. She has an MBA from the Haas School of Business at Berkeley and a BA in English from Duke University. Dan Lewerenz (Staff Attorney @Native American Rights Fund) Dan is a member of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska, and a voting rights litigator at the Native American Rights Fund. Before law school, Dan was a reporter and editor at The Associated Press for more than 10 years, and was a board member and President of the Native American Journalists Association. Since graduating from the University of Wisconsin Law School, Dan has clerked for two federal judges, and has worked with Indian tribes in private practice, as a government attorney, and now in the nonprofit sector.
